The Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, Cardinal Farrell, announced the death of Pope Francis from Casa Santa Marta, Vatican City, this morning. Pope Francis passed away at 7:35 am, Easter Monday, 21st April, 2025 (the 12th year of his pontificate). His Holiness had been admitted into hospital back in February with a bout of bronchitis. The latter condition worsened and Pope Francis was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. However, after significant improvement the Pope was allowed to return home for recovery.
